I read the following article and this is not the only one of these types with backward think that ends up with kids growing up to be killers or non-productive citizens.
I realize the article maybe incorrectly written and there maybe more to the story than it says below but if it is written correctly this kid needs parents in his school standing up together and fighting this. This is a A student with no bad behavior in the past so I hope they all unite to change the school Nazis thinking.
Here is the article I read and the State of Texas gives each school district the right to control and make their own policies and rules. I have found in my life, not just with my own children, but seeing things happen to others that it is not a perfect system and many times students are not treated equally. I hope you will read the article and watch over each others children's rights to equal and fair treatment.
Kid faces expulsion for firing airsoft guns in his own front yard
Seventh grader Khalid Caraballo is suspended from school and faces expulsion for shooting an airsoft gun. No surprise there, since most schools have a zero-tolerance policy with guns on campus, right? The problem is he was in his front yard at the time.
Khalid and a few friends were playing with airsoft guns while they waited for the
school bus. When they saw the bus coming, they put the guns down and went to the
bus stop. A neighbor saw the kids pointing guns and called 911. The caller says
she knew the guns weren't real, but called anyway because they made her
uncomfortable. The school suspended Khalid and two other kids for "possession and use of a firearm." Khalid's parents say the whole thing is ridiculous because the kids were on private property, and police didn't file any charges. The kids' expulsion hearing was scheduled for Monday afternoon. —Article By Nick Mangione
I found this in the state of Texas Chapter 103 on Health and Safety under the Subchapter CC. Commissioner's Rules Concerning Safe Schools
(4) Each district shall establish a board-approved policy for discipline and intervention measures to prevent and intervene against unsafe behavior and include disciplinary actions that do not jeopardize students' physical health and safety, harm emotional well-being, or discourage physical activity.
This is one time after reading this that you may want to open the Public school handbook that your child got and read it to see what maybe unfair policies in your school systems.
I pray for you as a parent that it has no policies in it that are unfair.
