Visit a city named Poetry or other various places relating to poetry... Poetry, Texas (31 ratings) Texas Landmark Poetry is an unincorporated community primarily in Kaufman County, Texas, United States, but extending into Hunt and Rockwall counties. It is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 986 and 1565, approximately six miles north of Terrell. Originally known as Turner's Point, a post office and school were established in 1858. In 1876, the community was renamed Poetry. The new name was suggested by local merchant Maston Ussery, who said that the area in springtime reminded him of a poem. Poetry's population peaked at around 234 in 1904. Its post office closed in 1905 and service was consolidated with nearby Terrell. A 1984 incorporation vote was approved by local residents, but was invalidated by the Kaufman County Commissioners Court due to technicalities. Today, Poetry is a widely dispersed, lightly populated community. Visit a poetry landmark

One that seems to be becoming more popular with raising cost of utilities. The Earthship Of Fortune When I am through with this old Earthened Home one of my own, When light beam in and the windows shine, No more clay homes of yesterday. And, Dearest Neighbor please come out and play, Raise a home not a barn, Few tires to tread around in for a little darn, A place to compose, A yar, poem or may just a pose, An old Earthship that sails on the wind, Come be part of my neighborly crew and after when we unwind, I will have an ice cream social every year, Or if you rather I can get you a beer, If you can by some miracle aid me in my quest, I may be old and sickly but my thank you will have some zest. For in these old beat up materials that made up my home, Are now a beautiful loving family and fortune under the earthed dome. So, lets be neighbors and good friends, And show the world how anyone can live off the grinds… Copyright ©2014 Michelle Reid |
