Our HealthPink color is considered to be the most romantic of all the colors. It is the most tranquilizing color and is associated with femininity. Often sports teams use pink color to paint the locker rooms for the opposing team. It has been found beneficial in reducing anger and anxiety and this is the reason why prisons in US are painted pink to keep the prisoners calm. Pink is feminine yet a soothing color that shows caring and affection. It is a protective and compassionate color that heals and soothes. This lighthearted color can stimulate happiness. Too much of bright pink might stimulate energy and incite passionate behavior just like its distant cousin Red. Pink can be however be safely useful in hospitals or prisons to reduce erratic behavior. Dr Alexander Schauss, from American Institute of Biosocial and Medical Research explains that, “Even if a person tries to be angry or aggressive in the presence of pink, he can’t. The heart muscles can’t race fast enough.” For autistic children soft light pink can be a good choice because it is not distracting, and may help with concentration. Further research in this area in 1978 suggested that the color pink has a tranquilizing effect and can calm hostile or angry emotions – even to the point of weakening muscles within 10-15 minutes. The research conducted by Glen Wylie and photo-biologist John Ott showed that out of 153 people, only 2 failed to lose strength in their arms when viewing a large, 2×3′ piece of pink construction paper. Strength loss from the color pink ranged from 6-23%. In contrast, the color blue caused the subjects’ muscle strength to quickly return. |
